The power of colour

Never underestimate the power of wearing something colourful when it comes to fitness. On days when energy is low and everything feels heavy, starting a home workout with a set of dumbbells can be daunting. But here’s a trick I use: I put on bright, feel-good workout gear.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with dressing for yourself! Personally, I have always advocated for a little makeup and lip gloss to help get me in the workout mindset. Some might find this vain but I’ve long since given up worrying about others opinions. I can only be myself, and a touch of bronzer and lip gloss has carried me through many workouts over the years.
Since getting my colours done (it turns out I’m a Spring), I’ve really enjoyed getting dressed for my workouts. I’ll admit I was sceptical about going for colour analysis at first, after all, at nearly 50, I thought I already knew what suited me. But I quickly realised that understanding the colours that complement my skin tone can take years off my appearance! Who knew? I am probably late to the party on this but better late than never. This newfound knowledge has led me to expand my workout wardrobe with lovely bright tops and bottoms that genuinely brighten my mood.
My main brands are a mixture of Sweatty Betty for tops, Lulu Lemon for bottoms (which are an investment but last year after year) and Gymshark for a mixture of both. I also go to H&M for bra tops.
As a personal trainer focused on strength training for women with busy lives, home workouts can be both easy and hard. They're hard to get into the zone because you are at home, but easy because the workouts are at home. By putting on bright colours, which can feel like a form of armour, you not only demonstrate to yourself that your workout is important, but you also lift your mood, creating a positive atmosphere that reinforces your commitment to exercise at home.
